tumbl-fail

I've tried three times. Is it the seizure-inducing gifs? The inability to track conversations? I don't know, but my fanosaur brain just can'tI know Tumblr is wear it's at, and am glad that many of you are having a good time there and want you to continue. I would love, though, if you're writing something or otherwise arting, an LJ post just linking ( Read more... )

It's the lack of conversation-threading that stalls me out cold, mostly. Even on forum postings, there was usually a way to keep track of conversations all in a single location. Tumblr's too spread out for my liking, and it contributes to the more damaging echo-chamber aspects.

That, and the inability to filter/lock posts and do other internal maintenance without resorting to mainly third-party applications (Tumblr Savior, Missing E, and the like) makes me want to run screaming. It's hard enough to follow Twitter some days; Tumblr just seems like the difficult parts writ large.

Then again, I do admit that I come from an age where the lines between online and RL were drawn a lot more sharply, and Tumblr seems to be part of the trend that blurs that quite a lot. *bitter old fandom hag*

Preach. I can't get used to it--I know it's not possible to be entirely anonymous on the web, but I still want put up a bit of a fight. Also, I don't think I'm being inauthentic, I just don't see any conflict in tailoring my self-presentation, the same way I have a professional persona at work, a daughter/sister persona with family, etc.

Also, filters so important. When I'm going for my fandom fix, I don't want to wade through someone's political posts, sports rah-rah, in-jokes I'm not a part of, etc.

Most of my LJ peeps are pretty diligent with the cross-posting, which is actually nice because then LJ is like ... a highlight reel! I'm for sure not going anywhere, the last meme I did had like ... 1 response on tumblr and something like 20 LJ comments (that I haven't even finished responding to XD).

I just like tumblr for looking at things (I follow a lot of artists mainly). LJ is my internet 'home' and I imagine it will remain that way.

While I may post art to my tumblr page first (because of laziness mostly), I do post probably 99% of the art here afterward! (the other 1% is questionable scribbles...that...actually might get posted on lj too, just without any particularly haste ^^;)

I see Tumblr as an adjunct, not a replacement - because it's so very visual and utterly crap for discussion of any kind.

all my fic comes here and most of the rest of original things too. what doesn't is....usually short and silly. If you get very curious/worried you're missing out it usually is here: https://kawuli.tumblr.com/tagged/mo-rambles and that tag usually has few to no gifs/weird discourse/whatever.

Unfortunately actual-crossposting either way is wonky but I do try for important stuff.
