2 sides to every coin

it seems my last few posts have emphasized my feeling of burn-out associated with the particular industry i work in. but every so often, a few days go by where i feel like: "yeah, this isnt so bad. i might even be able to do it forever." this thought process really has more to do with being around good people than actually working, but whatever. it ( Read more... )

A lot of people stay in their job not because of the job nature, but because of their colleagues/people whom they interact with at work. Enthusiasm in a job generally declines over time (I'm not sure whether it applies to the industry that you work in though), people become jaded, and the only thing driving them could be the friendships established with their fellow co-workers and the $$$.

You mentioned you are graduating from college soon (I presume you major in film production). Wouldn't you want to build a career in that area? With sufficient dream, talent, hard work, you could be an established director or something in the future...who knows? :)

yes, i most definitely am going for mainstream production work. i do a lot in the student arena behind the camera, or on set. just this summer ive been focused mostly on writing... which doesnt actually bring up any interesting experiences that one puts on livejournal.

but when i said, i could do this for the rest of my life, i just meant it as a feeling... not a reality.

Which part of film production do you enjoy most e.g. directing, writing etc? I believe that even writing, which typically entails doing research or interviewing people on the topics concerned, could be interesting too. There are many awards dedicated to screenwriters annually...although the job is probably not as glam and less interesting than directing in my opinion.

Being in LA aka hollywood should give you geographical advantage in terms of having the opportunity to participate in film productions? Have you tried signing up for any of these?

I agree with meowie's comments whole-heartedly and am excited for you to graduate. I've seen some of your work (films) and, though I'm just a measly spectator with no context of the movie, I think you are quite talented.

Glad you had fun at the birthday party. Sounds like a blast :)
