Lots of people have been doing that tv meme recentlly. Silently, I found myself replying to a lot of those questions with "BSG miniseries". To this day and 4 seasons of BSG, I still consider its pilot movie one of the best things ever. One of the best BSG "episodes" ever and one of the best movies in general, ever. Considering the fact that I was

Very nice tribute to the miniseries, which I didn't like as much as you did, but which you've made sound more exciting and more enjoyable than I thought it was....

Awwww. Maybe you should just watch it again? Yes, I think, you should. It'll be more exciting and more enjoyable that second time around. *g*

So if you should be posting again anytime soon, I'm not ignoring you, I'm just not around....

I've always maintained that the mini-series could have been a movie shown at cinemas, and it would have done very well. It just has everything really. ♥

I love how the story unfolds slowly, and the fact that we're not hit over the head with anything in an overly melodramatic way, despite the intense and devastating apocalyptic situation we find ourselves watching. It's all done with such subtly, and you are drawn into the story very effectively imo.
Well put. That's exactly it. I think that was (early) BSG's strongest quality anyway. Subtle and realistic, but all the more intense emotion, that needed time to play out.

Yeah, it would have been wonderful to watch on the big screen. But I suppose a lot of people go to cinema for instant entertainment only (you may say: to be hit over the head with it in an overly melodramatic way) and the mini would have probably made those fall asleep. Or maybe I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong.

Definitely. It also gave it this atmospheric quality (without being at all pretentious) which was so great to watch. Caprica has a touch of this quality too, I think, though as a show, it still has a way to go obviously.

Good point, lol. It probably would have been greatly received by the critics and a small-ish audience who appreciate a more subtle storytelling approach. ;) It would be nice to be wrong - but after a few recent trips to the cinema, I have been pretty underwhelmed.

Now, I'm not morbid or anything, but I was completely taken by that scene. Especially when hot robot killer chick walked away from the scene with that absolutely painful look on her face. Besides, no matter how many babies die horrible deaths every day on this planet, you don't kill babies on tv. You don't. And if you do, you don't show it. No, you don't. But Battlestar did just that. And above that, they made me feel for the baby, its mother and it's murderer.Yes, yes, yes! The baby-killing was one of the big turning points in the miniseries for me. It shocked me this show actually went there AND portrayed it in a complex way that actually made me feel for Six too. (Oh Tricia Helfer ( ... )

Relieved to know I'm not the only person who was absolutely fascinated by that rather shocking scene. Pfew. *lol* I still can't believe Tricia had no acting experience before that. It's unbelievable what she can communicate with her eyes only. Maybe that's why she and Mary have been my favorite BSG actresses all along.
Glad the post brought back some memories for you. :)
