Personally, I'm a big fan of being a Luddite. But seriously--how often is a major housemate conversation going to happen which you must know about immediately? Perhaps if they know you can't participate at work, they'll either let the conversation take longer or call you if it's an emergency. I just have issues with being _always_ available to anyone. Hence my general dislike of texting--I like the human voice, damnit!

Nevermind! I thought it was you -- and the IP address confirms it! I'll keep you posted if I get a new phone and it's Sprint. At a minimum I think I'll be switching to my own service or offering to pay Fran/Steve.
I vote for B for the first question. Your situation may very well be different, and I can only speak to my experience. But I also don't have email access at work, and it hasn't been a problem for the first 2.5 weeks. Did something happen to your phone?
My phone is good. There was supposed to be a house meeting tonight, but it was cancelled, and there was a lot of discussion about mousetraps (we have visitors!). It wasn't anything too crucial, and if I'd say, wanted to do something else this evening, I could have called to see if the meeting was still on.
It's sort of weird to have absolutely no personal email access. But sort of nice in that I can't do anything but work (that is, no distractions).
Sorry I've been so bad about email -- maybe we'll talk this weekend? I usually don't get home until 7/7:30 and I cook dinner and like chill. Once I turn in my security form my evenings should be more free.
You don't need to use web-based email to access your Gmail. You can download it to Eudora or Outlook or Entourage using POP, while keeping a copy of each message in your Gmail account. For more info, google Gmail POP or Gmail IMAP.
As for Sprint, I use it -- have a very basic plan, older phone. Pretty good service in Pgh.

But if you've already got a cell phone, why not get the e-mail, too?
