I've been thinking about veganism myself recently, as I don't approve of farming (ethically or environmentally) and I want to reduce the impact I have on the environment and am quite convinced by articles that demonstrate veganism is the way to do it. I haven't quite taken the plunge as it seems to involve quite a lot of planning (the only vegan sandwiches that exist in most shops are humous ones, and I can't eat sesame), but I've been working towards it. theppk.com is a good vegan recipe site (not too much of the weird chemical ingredients that blight many vegan sites).
Thanks for that - i hadn't come across that. It is alarming how processed a lot of vegan things are. I'm trying to force myself to care more about what I eat, and yes...I have been led here by the conclusion that eating animals is just plain unsustainable and I may as well be the change I'd like to see in the world. If I can get myself organised and healthy, I'll keep it up.
It's a shame LJ is going that way (and it is) but it is v. funny that you have posted this on a day when my friends list actually seems to be updating for once (me included).
I can never work if our lives have got too interesting to have time to blog, or too dull to have anything to blog about. Mostly I wish I could spend as much time drunk as I did in 2002/3.
Also, go go gadget veganism. It does require mega-organisation though, as there are only so many fucking humous sandwiches one can eat when dashing about in the week. (Our union shop helpfully sells 'free range ham and egg' sandwiches, but the egg sandwiches make no mention of being free range, so I have to assume they aren't and avoid them. WHY, SHOP, WHY.)
We can never be as drunk as we were in 2002/3 mainly because it would hurt.
Luckily being in THE CITY. I have a heap of vegan options and M&S samosas are totes veegs. But the idea is to make sure I am cooking me fresh good food and having balanced meals. If this means I default to chips, No dice.
Pft, stop showing off your London, you... Londoner. If only M&S had a student discount. Of about 80%.
"We can never be as drunk as we were in 2002/3 mainly because it would hurt" The truth of this statement makes me do a little cry, Sarah.
Yeah, I found I lost rather a lot of weight upon moving to the HILLY NORTH and then put it back on quite quickly because everywhere here only has one vegetarian option and it's always chips. And the real problem is that I am always quite quite happy to eat them.
Well if you stop using LJ I'll pretty much lose you, other than FB updates, and I will miss you. I know you're not here often but I've always been glad for the deeper view, more than just FB snippets, but I suppose these things happen. I will leave LJ when they pry my cold, dead hands off the keyboard, even if I'm posting a bit less than before I still cling to it, and my few remaining active LJ friends, fiercely. Still, things change and it sounds like they are changing in very good ways, for you. I'll just miss reading about it! But it's good to read this post at least, and see so many amazing things happening to you creatively (or better said, seeing you make so many amazing things happen), and I'm glad you are feeling so inspired.
Good luck with veganism, here's to health and strength and feeling good. And to paying off debts and creating financial security.
Oh there'll be a blog or somewhere always...and you can always RSS feed any blog that lets you into your friends feed. So y'know...but thanks for your kind words.
I still read almost every day on here, but guess I'm too damn lazy to turn on the computer to update, so I just comment. (I find writing big swathes on the iphone too frustrating).
There ARE a lot of processed vegan things - Sheese, things full of sugar etc - so you have to be just as careful as when being a carnivore.
Same here with iphone - I type at work in breaks and email and cut and paste.
Yeah, luckily I've always been pretty good at avoiding spooky food. The smell usually puts me off. I don't like the fake cheeses and hate fake meat as much as rubbish processed meat.

It's okay if it makes you cry - at least Jack Daniels isn't making up the tears these days.
