This weekend about midnight my brother and I were walking past a thicket on campus when we heard what was apparently plaintive mewing. A flashlight revealed a small black cat with green eyes, old enough to have been weaned but not obviously an adult, sitting in the middle of the thicket, five or six feet away from where we could reach without getting massively scratched. The cat reacted with indifference to the flashlight, "here, kitty, kitty", and my brother stepping halfway into the thicket, neither approaching nor avoiding us (contrary to what I initially thought, it could easily maneuver on the ground, where the branches were not so densely packed). I suppose it may have just wanted to chat.
