God I hate mondays...

It was raining this morning, and I didn't want to get out of bed. It's happening again, where work becomes mundane and I want no part of it. I had my review a couple weeks ago, and overall it went very well. However, even though the raise may have been better than average, it doesn't add up to enough to make any differnce. It's hard to feel ( Read more... )

What you do sounds amazing (if I'm reading it right) -- doing the artwork for ads. I have a small love affair with anything that has to do with glossy color print, and it so much of the time it seems like the most creative art in a magazine is in the advertising. Had I better illustration skills, I would have gone into graphic design; instead I ended up as writer, and even worked for a small magazine for awhile. I left because the pay was terrible, and I couldn't stand it, but I miss it. There's nothing like magazines hot off the press. What types of ads do you do?

I'm a graphic designer for print and web. I don't just work on ads, but packaging, logos, flyers, and most of what I work on is for the internet. Sometimes it's great fun, but most of the time I feel repressed. And there's that glass ceiling. It's definately time for me to move on, I've been at this company for 6 years. Honestly, I used to be able to draw O.K. (if that) but I can't do an illustration worth crap anymore. But I guess it's more about finding a style than being able to draw everything. I used to work on a magazine as well, that was pretty fun, but too many restrictions. Do you still work as a writer?

What magazine did you work for? And do you have any work on the web now?

I started writing and editing for a scale modeling magazine (models of planes, tanks, etc.) as an intern. I left to go work as a technical writer (which was very hard, it hurt a lot to give up the magazine and I felt like I sold out). And now I'm contracting as a project coordinator for an insurance company. It's honestly very boring:) But I like being contract because I feel free to "find myself". I want to write, but I want to be paid well. I really want to write fiction, so now I'm thinking I'll just have to persue that as a hobby and hope that if I work hard enough, it will take off as a career.

I worked for a woodworking magazine. I still work for the same company actually and the launch of that website is coming in the next couple weeks. I'll share with you then. I didn't do any work on the current site and it's pretty bad. Very, very bad.
