I can't tell you how happy I am to be working at the Frock Stockade this year, which is not in a mall so the only changes made to the normal schedule during the holiday season are that we're open one hour earlier on Saturdays and two hours earlier on Sundays.

My schedule last year when I had a holiday job at the Big Red Star Department Store was nuts, and I was still lucky to get 18 hours in a week. It's just that those hours were three 6 pm - midnight shifts a week, while still getting out of bed at 5 am the next morning to put the kids and Hubs out the door. Like you, I was falling back into bed after the last one was disposed of, except when there was laundry, or groceries, or Christmas shopping, or baking, etc., etc.

So no, coherency is not an option. Don't fret y'self about it.

matabi works year-round for Macy's but this is when she makes the bulk of her money working 40 hours a week at a lousy job. She's support staff and responsible for assuring that price tags are correct before and after sales. Except Macy's one big sale this year...

"inmisery" is right.

And then there's inventory...

*nods* I did inventory for them last January, because they let all of the holiday help go before New Years when we'd been promised we'd probably be working well past that. They scheduled us to work from 4 am to 10 am, but the first day they still had oodles of the sections they'd chosen to work on that day left at 10 am but most of the inventory staff did, too, because they had other jobs to go to. Those of us that could stayed, and it took us until 2 pm. Then the next two days they were kicking us out the door at 8 am. But the last day they changed all the rules about when and how to replace price tags, etc., and then they were pissed as hell because we weren't done by store opening time at 10 am. You'd think as long as they'd been in business (even though these stores were belonged to a different department chain until about 5 years ago) they'd have a better handle on how to split the areas among the four days of inventory so that it wasn't four hours of work for the crew one day and eight the next...

Wow, sounds like you have your hands full! Honestly, there are times when I feel that whoever said change is fun is a complete and utter idiot! Have a nice cuppa, and know that this too shall pass.

Do you ever feel that you can't enjoy the holidays because you are so busy getting ready for them? Once the cards are mailed, Down the Chimney is done, the tax interviews (for my job) are finished, the presents bought...
then I'll have time for the cuppa.
Actually, right now matabi and I are at the point of a nice 1/2 glass of wine with dinner. We're past the cuppa stage.

I am currently packing boxes to go to SIngapore, Brunswick OH and Brecksville OH in preparation for the move. Such fun.

Yeah, I have to admit that I feel that way, too, today. I'm scheduled to sing so many concerts in the next two weeks--nice music, but the rehearsal schedule is a real bear! I wish I could feel happier about the singing, but honestly, I've overextended this year, and I can't wait for it to be over.

Before I got married I roomed with a ballet dancer. She started rehearsing the Nutcracker in July, performing in Oct. and finished in January. To this day neither of us can stomach any music from it.
