Is Your Computer Intected?

Apr 21, 2012 10:18

As many of you know, an advertising scam took control of hundreds of thousands of computers. If you are one of the unfortunate users, the US government will block you from the Internet beginning in July.

It is easy to tell if your machine is infected - go to http://www.dcwg.org/ and follow the instructions.

Whew! I seem to be good. I have a lot of trouble with my pc lately, but I seriously think it's just age... it's about 10 years old, and just wearing out. I plan to replace it when I get my tax refund back; then, thankfully, I should be able to get back to posting MfU episode cappage and commentary. Right now, it's just too likely I will get kicked off mid-task to take the risk! Too much work down the tube!

Thanks for posting this. It's good to know I'm in the clear.

Thanks for the heads up with that. With all the other crap that's going down with the Internet in July that would have been just one more thing to deal with. Thankfully, with that at least, I'm in the clear.

Sadly, I know several of us have been infected as I've gotten some bad emails. I never open things without checking, so I've avoided it, but I put that down partially to luck.

malwarebytes is a good program to install and run, it cleans that crap off your computer.

Now if only I could remember to resume the scan I start earlier after I paused it. yeah meant to do that before I left the house this afternoon, but forgot and got home after 12:30 AM only to see the program on my taskbar and realize I forgot to resume it. *sigh* oh well, I scanned not too long ago.
