It's not mock sympathy. I'm not a sycophant, nor do I..oh, what's the expression? Brown-nose. I wouldn't bother if I didn't mean it. I genuinely was concerned that you'd had a shitty birthday, and that you can't hex him because you're underage still.

It was horrible, I'm sorry I dared agree, and I'll stay out in future.

Might be best to keep your nose out of things in the future, yes-- seems to get you in a fair bit of trouble a few times a year-- publicized, gossipy, annoying trouble. And by the way, it's not that I wouldn't hex him because I'm underage-- I just couldn't because he's a muggle. So there. Things are set straight enough.

And I fully recommend studying for your licence. You never know when Apparating can save your life come in handy.
