Book readers of the world unite and take over

Apr 12, 2005 11:52

Everyone, come see how good I look!

No...actually just recommend a good book or two to me.

I'm making a long needed books-to-read list and I've forgotten what all I wanted to put on it, mostly because I didn't make list of them...

Thanks!

Yea I heard some girls in my poetry class talking about The Perks of Being a Wallflower. What sort of book is it?

I think I read it in one sitting. That's usually a sign of a good book. Vonnegut's Hocus Pocus comes to mind as another one-sitting book.

Stephen King's Dark Tower series. It starts out really well, book two kind of sucks, then it gets better again. Books 4, 5, 6, & 7 just get better and better until you cream your pants at the end.

If you're looking for something less epic... anything by Bret Easton Ellis. (Especially Rules of Attraction.)

Also, if you have not already read it, I recommend Snow Crash, by Neal Stephenson. I do not know anyone who doesn't like that book. It has everything: motorcycles, ninjas, hackers, eskimos, the mafia, pizza, sex, and violence. Who could ask for more?

Luckily my dad owns all the Dark Tower books and he loves them, so I'll just acquire them from his house over the summer. Although I am getting a bit tired of giant, epic book series'...Maybe it was WoT ending up Suck and me continuing to spend real, actual money buying them..

Snow Crash sounds SOO GOOOD! It makes me want to Punt! For some reason your description reminds me of a book by Tom Robbins that T. Chris had us read. Mike'll know what it was.

Yea I've read a few of Chuck's books. My sister worked in the NYC B+N and would send me signed books of his when they came out and he visited the store. I have to say though, some of the newer books I tried out were a little lackluster compared to Survivor and Fight Club, Choke, and from what I hear (I haven't read it) Invisible Monsters. For instance I tried Lullaby, but hated it. I thought it was a rediculous plotline. I also tried and actually finished Diary but thought it sucked. Sometimes I just have trouble not finishing a book even when I don't like it and such was the case.

Anywho, I'll be coming home for summer, be seeing you then.
