Yes, indeed. There are several layers of authority being challenged, from faily lightweight personal contests of will and "I want it now!" demands, all the way up to the authority of the Force itself.
Some of that authority is good, and some very wrong, as is eventually shown.
Sometimes it seems that young folks are inclined to challenge authority just because it's there, whether wrong or right. ];-)
I do a bit of dabbling in the fiction world as well; this isn't quite a typical fugitive chase, for example.

I've been lurking for a bit and am no longer quite sure. I probably hopped over from your comments to either jordan179 or johncwright, where I also lurk intermittently.
Some of that authority is good, and some very wrong, as is eventually shown.
And one thing that will be addressed briefly (or as briefly as certain parties' long-windedness would permit) in the next chapter is that some of the layers are the results of compromises between competing goods. I think this is strongly suggested in the movies, and I understand it shows up more explicitly in some of the EU works that I haven't actually read -- actually in ones where the authors were scrambling to try to fit what they'd previously guessed about the Jedi with what they were shown in the prequels. Also the thousand years line vs. the thousand ( ... )
