David Brin's The Uplift War

One book that you've read more than once:
Snow Crash

One book you'd want on a desert island:
The Name of the Rose (I might actually be able to finish it)

next time we're going to be in a similar geographic location, remind me to bring you my copy of the key to name of the rose. its not like cliffsnotes or anything, but it does have translations of the nonenglish stuff. i found it somewhat helpful.

okay, the one book that you wish had been written is a better CHEMISTRY TEXTBOOK!? You deserve a good swift kick in the... ANYWHERE!

How about an informative and accessible book on world religions and how other people are not necessarily evil?

You know, something like that had been my first idea, but I thought that surely someone must have written a book like that at some point. ::looks around:: Now that I think more about it, apparently not (although I'd love to hear suggestions). Consider me duly crotch-kicked.

Like, say, World Scripture: A Comparative Anthology of Sacred Texts?

And then there is the Sacred Texts site; however, that’s more geared towards presenting the original sources unedited and “in their own words,” so to speak. Unfortunately, what many groups choose as “their own words” is that other people are necessarily evil.

There are some other books reviewed here that you might want to look at. Warpaint of the Gods looks like it might fit the bill quite nicely.

Well, if you’re going to bring an Eco book with you, it seems like The Island of the Day Before would be more deliciously appropriate. You and the main character can go insane together!
