I'm not sure if it has finally hit me that we are in fact underway. Yes, that's right: three months away from the real world, floating around, eating bad food, and living in a room the size of my bathroom. It's good to be inport. The 16 hour days of being underway were long and tough to deal with. On the one hand you get used to constantly smelling like sweat, fuel, and oil, you get used to working your ass off week after week. It feels good to be back in the Bay Area, to see the friendly sight of the Bay Bridge, and be able to enjoy some decent weather. The Coast Guard has stationed me in Alameda so I'm going to be in the East Bay for at least the next two years. After that, we'll see where they decide to rotate me. I may request to stay here.

I just finished watching the movie closer. Absolutely wonderful movie that I almost hated while I was watching it. There were times where I was tempted to turn it off because it seemed like such a waste of time. The last ten minutes just ties everything together -- all the little pieces fit so nicely. I have this great study group for the CCNA exam -- a technical certification that several of us have decided to pursue. In fact, it's so great that my roommate left the room muttering some sort of anti-nerd rant as he realized that could understand absolutely nothing we were saying.
