I am beginning to love this Charlie :)

Like many here, i love the slow build-up you have for Jack and Ennis. Their mutual "admiration" for each other, the barely contain desire... and all the stolen glances... so sweet.

Glad you like the slow buildup and I'm really pleased that Charlie is getting some love from you guys. He needs a little in his life. :)

Thanks for the comments.

I've always had a soft spot for a good western (Lonesome Dove ranking high on my list of all-time favorites books) and I'm loving this. It's obvious you've done your homework, and you've made all the details of cowboy life and ranch work so interesting to read and blend so perfectly with Jack and Ennis's growing attraction - the trials and tribulations of the time and place provide a basis for each of them to show what they're really made of.

Thanks, Marie

P.S. I love Charlie!

I have always loved Westerns too. I grew up watching shows like "Bonanza", "Gunsmoke", "Big Valley" and "High Chaparral". I loved reading Louis L'Amour books when I was in high school and "Lonesome Dove" is one of my favorite Western films. Hard to resist those rugged cowboys too.:)

I'm really glad the details are adding to the story and not overwhelming it. I definitely didn't want it to become a "How to work on a ranch" handbook just wanted to give it the necessary realism to make it work.

Charlie is just a teddy bear underneath all that grissel.

Thanks, I'm glad you think it's getting better as it goes along.

You know I didn't really think of that scene with them sleeping as mirroring the dozy embrace but I see what you mean with regards to the "Sexless Hunger". They definitely have that and I'm glad you liked the way the scene played out.

***is there trouble ahead***

There's always trouble ahead but you'll just have to wait to find out what kind. ;)

Thanks for reading and continuing to comment. Good to know I'm doing this right.

Lovely chapter, and I enjoyed every word of the dawning awareness each man is having about what they're feeling means. Charlie is a hoot "Been cold a time or two myself". Har. This was sweet, and I can't wait to read more!

Really wonderful chapter joetheone April 30 2007, 21:39:27 UTC
This chapter was different and I cannot put my finger on it. The song was wonderful and appropriate and well very meaningful. The new guys coming for the drive I have curiosity about myself and then the way Jack and Ennis sort of drifted together in the night was really special also. Charlie I think knows more then he wants to say but that is good also. Yes I always knew when you put too many men together for a long period of time they are bound to find something to do with themselves sexually. All those frontiersman I think had a little of the gay feelings in them maybe why they searched out the west and the lonesome areas of the west to get away from the cities. Maybe, they did get married eventually but only to reproduce and have others to help run the ranches but in the long term I think they like the companionshiop of other men. Joe

Joe, you may be right about the men of the west. After all if you wanted to be free to be yourself without too many people around to object there was a lot of lonesome territory to choose from where you might not see other people for weeks or months at a time.

Glad you think the song worked and as always thanks for the feedback.
