While I totally agree about not sharing badges (oh wow is that ever NOT okay!), I am one of those who are on the fence about attending Con. If there were a day-pass option available, I would probably give it a whirl. I frequently do not have this time-period available (work-related). I am not likely to pay a large sum of money months or a year in advance for something there is a very good chance I won't use
( ... )
How is it short term when our attendance has grown every year? It isn't as if we need to have people "check it out" to keep our attendance up. It is going up.
Given that memberships are fully transferable, you have nothing to lose by paying the pre-reg rate that would, as I said, be lower than any day pass rate.
With the sheer number of people I see looking for registrations this time of year, finding someone to transfer a membership to would be very easy.
You pay less and there is a nearly non existent risk (post you have a membership available on FB and it'll be gone in an hour).
I don't think it's essential to CONvergence to have day passes, as you are right, the attendance is currently doing just fine.
That said, I think day passes are a great way for people who might be interested to check the event out. If I didn't know much about the place, I'd be more likely to pay for a Saturday visit than commit to the full weekend.
I don't think this issue is hurting the con, per se, but it could be set up in such a way to encourage curiosity.
The at con rate is only available at the con but if you know someone who is there, you could either give them the money to have them fill out a registration for you or pay them back. I know some other folks who do that.
Badges are transferable? I have never been to a Con where they were... and therefore just purchased one for a friend at $80 when I could have gotten one from jeff who wasn't using his this year. This really makes me upset because I didn't realize.
Memberships have always been tranferable and that information has always been on our website. I believe that the registration even says memberships are non-refundable but they are transferable.
This year, they have instituted a policy that memberships are transferable for free until June 16th and after that there is a $20 transfer fee. However, you can *still* sell that membership. If you offer it to someone in the at the door line (even with the additional $20), it will be less than they would have to pay for the at the door cost and you can get your money back.
Well, I paid $80 for it... instead of the $45 it would have cost me... so if I sell it at the door plus the $20 transfer, it will be way more than someone at the door pays but maybe I can get some of my money back on it.
Yes, I should have checked the FAQ but I had not heard of the transfers before this. Darn.

Is there any way for me to get the pre-reg price available for this year's attendees?

Possibly because I was donating it for free :o)
It's easily worth 80 dollars.. and the price I got it at last year was bargain-tastic.
