I'm glad they finally gave you a diagnosis of something so you don't have to be so frustrated anymore.
As for the RA, I was diagnosed at 17. Sure there are days where things are like, "eff you, Loca, we are not in the mood to button your pants" but thats why drawstrings were invented. Talk/work with your rheumatologist to find what works for YOU, every case is different.
HI! Hi. I was thinking about you when I got the call from the nurse with my diagnosis. Actually, I was thinking about you and House: it's never Lupus! They haven't used that joke in a while... I really want someone on that show to actually have Lupus.
But yeah... it'll be okay. I think they wouldn't diagnosed me sooner except that I was a gymnast and a dancer, so all my injuries just seemed like wear and tear from my lifestyle. I've torn cartilage/ligaments or had tendonitis in pretty much every joint in my body, and I was the only 11 year old I knew with an orthopedic surgeon that I saw on a regular basis :P Ah well. I've heard yoga is supposed to be helpful--true or false?
I'm going to see the rheumatologist in a few weeks, so I'll have to update then and let you know what she says/how it goes. Since my mom has RA, she's been giving me lots of advice and things to ask about. I'll just be happy if they can get my elbows to stop hurting, omg.
I lost my thyroid twenty years ago. I'm glad you have a doctor who let you switch meds...many won't, just because the numbers "look" good.
May I suggest that you have your vitamin D3 levels checked as well? I've been complaining about aches and pains and tiredness for years. My thyroid levels were normal. But surprisingly, my Vit D was so low that my doctor was surprised that I don't have adult rickets! As soon as I started taking very high doses (10,000iu) of Vitamin D, my heart palpitations and brain fog disappeared. I felt SO much better. This is a long term type issue...it can take a year to actually get those vitamin levels up to where they should be. I am taking 3000 iu per day right now, and I know its not enough, so back to the doctor for more bloodwork.
I just wanted to comment that the Vitamin D issue mimics the symptoms of the hypothyroidism so its easy to miss. I hate feeling the way I do, so I am hoping you fair better than I have.
I just want to clarify that I AM hypothyroid. My thyroid was removed 15 years ago when I developed a huge goiter. My thyroid levels test normal with Synthroid, but I have NOT felt normal for 20 years. The vitamin D3 thing was the first improvement I felt in some time and actually, I go back next week to see why all my joints still ache.
That's interesting! I will definitely ask my doctor about the vitamin D3 thing. He seems very open to testing, which is great because it's one of the few things my health insurance covers in full. I'm feeling slightly better on the Synthroid. Yesterday after my workout, instead of feeling like I was going to throw up, I actually felt really good and energized, so already that's a huge difference.
Now I'm wondering if my ADHD isn't ADHD at all, but "brain fog" from hypothyroidism. It would be nice to be able to get off adderall... although honestly, it helps me a lot with my abilities to socialize, so I'd rather stay on it. But it would be nice to have the option of not *needing* it just so I can concentrate for more than a few minutes!
*hugs* At least they've finally figured out the hypothyroidism? That sucks about the arthritis though. :(
Ohh, awesome for getting offered UG's job! It's about time someone recognized your awesomeness!
Things are going okay here. My baby sister is having a baby; she's due anytime now, so we're excited about that. I'm being trained to be a supervisor at work, which is definitely interesting, but it requires a LOT of work. Btwn work and the kids, I don't have much time for anything fun. But I still love ya and I wish we had more time to talk. We need a fangirl weekend!! <33333
I need a fangirl weekend SO BAD. Wendy needs to stop working on the weekends so we can have one :P It was so fun that weekend we went to the Hannah Montana movie and stuff. I still love that line dancing song!!
We did have such a great time! I need one of those weekends, at least to look forward to. I'm gonna talk to a few people and see about maybe finding a long weekend to spend in TX. :)
Oh, man, I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with RA and everything else at 29. That really sucks, and yeah, is scary, particularly with the example of your mom right in front of you.
