Laury Oaks wrote a great book that deals with this kind of BS called Smoking and Pregnancy. I use it in like every paper I write because she talks about the "new rules of pregnancy" and how every woman is supposed to act prepregnant.

Because it's not the absurd hospital-based care that we practice... no!! It's just a coincidence that every other country that's ahead of us in m-f mortality has midwifery based care! NAAAAAHHHHH.

I'm just going to chime in to agree w/ theoumotel - it couldn't be that the MDs keep hacking away at women who "Fail to progress" or have "fetal distress" (hello -- this person's been lying on their vena cava for 26 hours!!! think that might be PART of the problem???) or any other random reason they can come up with.

This got my pg hormone panties in a wad too. PS - I got hives this pregnancy. I so felt your pain...
