That's 4 working structure fires in 2 months. That's like more than I've had in the last two years (at least). This last one was a room and contents we actually saved that structure.

What does "working structure fire" mean in this context?

A working structure fire basically means a house fire (or commercial building fire). As opposed to it being an alarm for a fire that turns out to be something else (False alarm, smoke from another source etc ( ... )

For more context in a middle class suburban area like I work in, we average between 6 and 8 working fires in a year. Less than that actually, last year. So four in so short a time is unusual.

(Basically this is the ultimate work as a "fireman". It's what a lot of guys really signed up to do, and we don't do it very often. Modern construction, education, and fire prevention programs have significantly cut the number of house fires over the last thirty years.)
