Assaulted at school

I never thought I would have to press charges against one of my students, but I did yesterday.

Back story: Students are not to bring games, mp3 players phones or other electronic devices to school. IF they do and get caught with them in the classroom, the teacher is to turn it in to the office. I have often given my students second chances by ( Read more... )

Wow. Well done on pressing charges. G*d knows the kids are all too quick to cry foul if a teacher so much as brushes past them these days, they should get the same treatment. This is for all those teachers who are at their wits' end each day hearing the little buggers crow, "You can't do nothing to me, Miss. I got rights, Miss."

I taught for 6 years. Special Education, Emotionally Handicapped (i.e. problem children).
I ended up having to call the police three times and actually go to court once.
Saddest moment was when T. heard the guilty sentence and they started to lead him off. His mother asked the bailiff if she could give her son a kiss. The bailiff said that no, she couldn't.

It's never easy. When people lose personal control to this extent, they leave you few choices.

I've filed three police reports, two against the same student. His parents asked us, "Why don't you ever file police reports?" So we did, and I pressed charges the second time. Others filed after me, and I reckon I made the way a little easier for them.
