Tomorrow is the 2nd annual Chili cook off and BBQ at St Jerome. Last year I took 4th place with my chili and I'm hoping to do better with this years batch. I found a copy of a recipe I thought had been lost in the shuffle from one PC to the next. It was a recipe for Thai steak salad called Yum Nua. I found it in a folder a week or so ago and have been looking for an opportunity to try it. I had the BBQ going Sunday and grilled a beautiful ribeye steak. I'm a little bummed. I was looking forward all day to some quality time in the kitchen this evening and my first attempt at cooking chole. Checking out the spice list I found that I'm out of several of the spices I need. Bummer. If I've never mentioned it here before, I love Indian chaat. An Indian friend introduced me to it some years ago and I was hooked. My favorite chaat is aloo chole (spicy potato patties smothered with chick peas in a curried gravy).
