Uh, they ALWAYS set the alarm. Also, leaving the key there means someone could have simply waltzed in the door.

Don't worry I called Evie and told her. I think you misunderstood me, I left the key stuck in their door inside the house, no one was going to waltz in. I was just worried that one of them might have needed the spare key to get in and that's where the calling Evie part came in.
I was really lucky they hadn't set it this time. I was so ashamed of 'bless you', and I HAVE opened one before.
