It is so maddening that one parent (or perhaps even one person with no kids in the school) can set something like this in action. You've displayed an amazing amount of restraint. I hope it all works out well.

I also wear two necklaces -- one is a souvenir from a South Carolina vacation, the other is an equal sign, purchased from the Human Rights Campaign.

talk about banning someone who looks exactly like a person to whom most kids can relate!?! would want to relate. might actually draw in some who otherwise wouldn't (or think they don't) relate.

and, what ocelott said.

(I myself think the eyebrow ones look "owwy" but I would still let you in my school. I don't have a school. I wish I did, so I could let you in.)

Keep going. gae polisner

This is so deeply disappointing. Never in a million years would I have thought an author and a teacher would be considered inappropriate to address kids because of a couple of piercings. I feel so sorry as a parent, as an author, for those kids, missing out on a dynamic, engaged presentation with you because of something so ridiculous.

I had a slightly more disturbing thought when I read about this. Were you disinvited because someone couldn't handle your sexual orientation, and the "piercing" issue is just a smokescreen? (Or perhaps they feel that your piercings are somehow "signaling"?)

I'm not sure which upsets me more-being discriminated against for a stupid bigoted reason, or being discriminated against for a just plain stupid (the piercings) reason.
