I was looking for a reason to start blogging again.  Instead, the reason came looking for me.

This week, I was “disinvited” to an upcoming March school visit.  It was scheduled way back in June, but some time during the last few days, someone from the school visited my website and found my appearance objectionable.  Evidently, my piercings are “ ( Read more... )

I'm sorry. :( I expect that most of the kids who go to the school wouldn't have been offended in the least. I'm sorry the adults took the action they did. Your new PB sounds fabulous. I hope you get a chance to share it at the school one day!

i'm willing to bet it was never about the piercings but that damn chain on your belt loop as the school belongs to a secret society of key makers who need work!

I'm just dumbfounded. What are they doing with their kids when they take them out in public? Covering their eyes and ushering them away every time? Yeah, I don't think so.

Schools are becoming censoring centers for children, and I am fundamentally, furiously opposed to that. If a parent wanted to protest and keep their child out of school that day, it's stupid but it's their right. Teach one child, not a veritable compound of children, about intolerance. That's bad enough, because hate breeds hate.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just disgusted at their action. Those kids are really going to miss out when they don't hear you speak. In the end, my anger is nothing compared to the empathy I feel for you. You've handled this with a remarkable amount of grace and I hope the result is a lesson in tolerance for everyone, though I'd target it at a handful at that school if I could.

I can't wait for you to come to our school in March....My students are so excited as am I. Some people just don't get it and I am glad that I teach in an environment that is not like that. I have been wearing a snowflake necklace for the past 5 weeks...ah oh...I must be the cause of all this snow!...haha.

Phil... seriously..we can't wait for you to come on the 23rd....and please don't ever change who you are! That's why we love you!
