Jeez, I love the ECS! I have to visit there sometime. Who knows what will happen, eh?

I love your writing, Philia. If I prayed, I would be praying fervently for a publisher just for you. I haven't ever really been interested in short stories before, but if I found a book of your short stories, or even 5 books of your short stories, I would snap them up so fast! I luff them. Thank you for writing them.

Yes, the ECS is a place where the improbable frequently happens.

Thanks, Tiegirl. I think I have about given up on ever being published, sigh. But I'm glad you like my stories!

So at first I was like, augh, the classic proposal scene!

But then-- I LOVE that you actually examined all the awkwardness and the... the just general problematicity of a surprise public proposal! Of formal proposals in general! This scene set made me really happy to read.

Exactly! That's exactly it! I'm so glad someone can put into words what's jumbled up in my brain.

THIS!

Philia, I love it. Aaaaargh the awkwardness! But I'm glad they worked it out in the end. This made my day. Especially the bit when she says: "“About everything! Like, do we want the same things? What about kids? What about money? If you have to move because of your job, am I ready to go with you? Would you go with me if it was my job? You’d be my next of kin. If I had a horrible accident, you’d have to decide when to unplug the machines. And ethics, values - do we think the same way about the big things? I need to mull all this over for a while.”

When I got married, my mother actually said that bit about the next of kin and unplugging the machines, and my father said, "Thank goodness! I don't want to make that decision."

Oops, well, I had to invent a new waiter for this one. He's sweet, though maybe a bit old for you.

Oh I noticed that. And yes, I agree he probably is.

On the other hand, this was lovely. Definitely enjoyed the turn of surprises! It's funny because I've always wondered that..what if she doesn't want to? I mean how do you say no. If I ever got proposed to like that I would probably say no, just to see what would happen. It's really terrible, but there are a lot of cute ways to propose without the 'on the spot. you better love me enough to say yes' thing going.

I want to know more about this cook too..though I like the mystery. (:

A quick informal survey of married friends (including myself) reveals that most of them never had a "proposal." It was more like a mutual, "Hmmm, should we get married? Let's talk about it." Maybe another reason I don't relate to restaurant and ballpark proposals.

Glad you enjoyed it! Maybe that very last story will be about the dessert chef...
