I guess grandparents want to be all traditional like that. Maybe once she is starting to get used to seeing you as her grandson, she's not as keen on you two having a baby out of wedlock or something.
As an aside, I relate to what you're saying about you and Erin both being queer. I feel like I'm always going to see myself that way a bit too. It's just part of identity and stuff, that I suppose people who like black and white binaries aren't gonna get.
