I spoke to my grandmother the other night.  She's amazingly supportive, has been truly working on pronouns, calls me her grandson and is generally a wonderful woman.  THAT SAID:
she hit me the other night with the following:
- when are you and erin going to get married?
- she's giving you a baby, when are you going to buy her a diamond?

your gram sounds wonderful. it reminds me of a conversation I had last august with my grandmother, the last I saw her before I saw her in the hospital last winter. My uncle had mentioned he googled our last name and found me, and was impressed with the stuff I did in Philly. My grandmother asked me which 'groups' I did work with. I told her primiarily the homos, mommom. And without missing a beat she came back with "Christina, the homos are a group of people. If you want to get anything done, you need to be political and work with the democrats. Are there any homo democrats you could work with? That might be good for you."

PS. You are a wonderful healthcare practitioner - the world needs more providers like you. Hurry up with that degree so you can spend less time studying and more time practicing :)

thank you for the compliment- very kind. I have a WHOLE lot to learn, but am loving the process.
your gram sounds very cool as well. If I am 1/2 the human being my grandmother is, I will have achieved great success in my life.
