going to jail....

Who knew it would be so complicated to find a women's health clincial site for a guy? apparently it is. I was told, nicely, by many people "we don't take male students" when I inqured about placements there for my spring semester. So, my clincial advisor, (who I have a serious crush on) set me up at the the women's prison ( Read more... )

Ugh! I heard a story about a male nurse-midwifery student who almost didn't graduate because no one would let him get his hours.

Jake loved working in the jail. He worked at a few different locations for corrections and a lot of his current clients have done time. If you want to pick his brain I can put you in contact with him.

Good luck!

As someone who has seen the inside of several jails across this country...you should have quite an interesting experience LOL.

Hang tough...use your sense of humor. Do NO favors...and I mean NO favors....'cuz once you do 1, they got you over a barrel.

oh...and p.s. I no longer go to jail 'cuz I'm 19 years sober.. :)
I meant early in life LOL
Ummm Jail in:
CA
TN

I've had pretty good experiences working within the prison system (both when I was doing forensic mental health at the state hospital and now working with client who are transitioning out of prison). Like I told you when we chatted about it, I'd just be mindful of secondary gain and make sure that you are nice to folks, but not so nice that they're trying to get to you because it's better than wherever else they might be.

You're nice, but you're not dumb. I don't think you need to abandon your belief that people mostly tell the truth...just also include some internal analysis of motivation and and how to medically treat what's there. I am sure you'll do great!

And you'll have awesome stories, no doubt.

first let me say hi. If you remember me it would be by the screen name looking_4truth. Sounds like things are going well in your life.

As for doing a rotation at a womens prison, just remember you are probably going to get to do more procedures then your classmates. Plus you may have a greater chance of treating patients with long tern effects of std's and also those who have scaring issues due to abuse. You wills see this in a regular clinic, but there tends to be more in prison.
