i kinda want to be barefoot all the time. except pebbles hurt, as do bike pedals. and it gets cold in the winter. and there are health codes.
other than that, it's kinda like the difference between biking and driving a car. instead of closing yourself in a box, you constantly engage with and respond to things, and it's interesting, and it FEELS  ( Read more... )

Barefeetitude is the best. Every spring it's like getting a whole other sense organ back, one that magically tells you about temperature and balance and textures and whether it's rained recently and whether there are fire ants in the area.

I have a pair of those I wear whenever I'm not at work. I went barefoot in Philly all the time, by the way, even walking to work in center city and back. As for the whole "stepping on a syringe"- I mean, yeah, that could happen, but probably not, and especially if you watch the sidewalk in front of you. People say "broken glass" but even broken glass wears down to painful but not super-incredibly-sharp in a day or so, the kind of thing where you pick your foot up and go "damn!" but don't have to pull any splinters out ( ... )
