I never found you to be an asshole -only a bad date ;-)- . Yes you can be quite, well cynical at times, but I can too so I guess it never really bothered me.
Its hard to live with someone. Especially someone you've known for a while. Hang in there.

You.... actually, yea, we need some private time. Nothing bad, but I wouldnt mind talking. It occurs to me that I've only been alone with you a total of one times... er... time. I do not like that. I am your friend, not just a friend through a friend.
