Wow, sexist much! Even if you couldn't do the maintenance yourself, you can always get someone else to do it, so I don't know what he thinks the problem would be.

I know what type of fire you mean, not sure of the name though. They're quite common here in Australia, in the colder regions anyway. It's perfectly save to leave them running during the day as they are enclosed. You would need to clean the flue at the end of each winter though.

How long is the rental agreement for? If it's only short, you could move in and look for something else in the meantime.

I emailed the property manager and told her I was a bit concerned. She told me she was going to make sure he understood the rules regarding managing the property - that he needed to communicate through her.

She also told him he was lucky to have a tenant like me, which was a really nice thing to say. It helps to have a good tenancy record.

I'm still not going to have the fire going when I'm at work. As a news reporter, I hear of way too many incidents where things can go wrong.
