I spent my adolescence thinking I was the heroine of a coming-of-age novel. I now realise I was merely an extra in a magic realist novel.

I have come to see myself as the annoying comic-relief character put in there to illustrate how cool the protagonists are.

Nah, you'd be the character that everyone wished there'd been more of in the book, and of whom the people who disliked the book would say "She was the only good thing in that book".

Great; the best people turn up as minor characters in magic realist novels. Trotsky and stuff.

Im the fat guy kept around for comedy, pity, and to be placed in comparison to the main characters in the play. Luckily, I die in the fourth act of a massive heart attack. It serves as a lesson to all: "Fat bad, you grok health!"
