I know it sounds retarded, but it's more about anti-cruelty legislation and viewing an animal as property...versus something that has some rights. It's more involved than that, of course, but it's not just about changing a word. It's about the guy in Bellevue barbecuing a kitten and getting only a fine, if I am correctly remembering how that played out.
Anyway, not looking to debate the topic...just offering 2 cents.
If you have time sometime after Mother's Day, I'd be up for Northlake Tavern.
And that makes sense - the point behind it. Animals do have rights - and people bbqing a kitten ought to suffer the same fate and punishment as those who would bbq a human.
Granted, I'm a hypocrite because I also eat meat, but when an animal is raised as a 'product' and used wholey for food or clothing, and it's a humane kill or existence, I have no problem with that. Hell, I'm the guy that thinks we really should be raising humans for food and skins and by-products in a lab. Grow humans for consumption instead of animals, eh?
A life is a life. If you kill an animal in anything short of defense, you ought to suffer the same hell as for killing a human.
Anyone who cares for their animal already feels that way. I doubt that'll make the ones that see them as property change their minds. And yeah, it's kinda funny and stupid.
1) by owning a pet, you become a parent. No debate. People need to understand this.
2) that said, I totally agree with you, because the semantics of the label don't mean shit. People need to understand the responsibility they have taken on, and what you call it won't make a real impact in affecting that.
Bingo. The laws (and people) need to recognize that regardless of the term, a life is a life and if you're going to harm or kill an animal much the same way that predators harm or kill people, you should do the same time for a cat as a human.
