Thirty years ago... EAT BERTHA'S MUSSELS, good they were, this was when moules-frites was hopelessly chic, and pay a call on Miss Edie at EDITH'S SHOPPING BAG. Memorable moments in my visit to Baltimore, not even sure which boyfriend lived there at the time... Wesley? That seems right. Anyhow. She was behind the counter, seated, tired, but GRACIOUS.

Color me green with envy! I went to the later incarnation of Edith's Shopping Bag when it was owned by a friend of John Waters, and he was mostly selling books and records and postcards. It was a fun place, but I can only imagine what the original store was like.

My #1 time travel destination has always been NYC in the late 70s/early 80s to dance my ass off at Paradise Garage and all those other big gay discos. So using a time machine to go thrifting is perfectly acceptable in my book.

Yeah, but those places are a part of gay history--to me that's a lot more valid use of our metaphorical time machine than going shopping!

I wouldn't mind using the time machine to go to one of those arty East Village clubs in the early 80s (I guess arty East Village club is hella redundant) but they probably wouldn't let me in unless my incredible futuristic garb and language really impressed them.
