Hmmm, I don't know much about the Buffyverse, but I'll second what Krista said about healing wounds. Furthermore, it's used to fuel vampiric disciplines: protean, celerity, etc.

Being that Buffyverse vampires have demons literally in their blood, I'd just go and say that the blood they consume is absorbed in a "eat the life force way" that ignores conservation of mass. Since, you know, magic. I figure it does the same to other things (whisky, Buffalo wings, kittens), thus leaving no squicky images of Spike having to "empty the bin" every so often.

'Course they do, as long as they had them when they died/rose. Do the kidney's still function? No idea. Their hearts apparently still have some kind of use, though it's probably more magical and symbolic than biological ( ... )
