New York + Books

I want to say I hated the trip or I loved it but... really... it was pretty 'meh'
I guess that's what trips are like with tourist companies...you don't get to do enough of what you want to do and you do too much of what you don't want to do...

travel, books

if you're looking for moleskin sketchbooks, aboveground is always a good place to go in toronto - they usually give 10% off to students, so all you need to bring is your id, and i always get my moleskin notebooks from them (they always carry the ms sketchbooks, too, so you won't have trouble locating them)! they're located near OCAD if you've never been there before, but they're probably my favourite art store. tons of people like currys, but idk, i'm usually pretty underwhelmed by their selection.

it seems like you had fun in new york! :) the books you picked up look really interesting (i keep meaning to read more stuff about king arthur), though i'm sorry to hear your trip was pretty mediocre. hopefully the next time you go, you can explore the city on your own? nyc's so much fun, but yeah - probably not as enjoyable when you're travelling with a tourist company group or w/e D:

oh wow that sounds great... and I've been meaning to ask around for art stores too
I should go explore downtown some more

The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck is pretty interesting... it's basically a translation of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Morte_d'Arthur
which is from centuries ago
it's incomplete though... just to warn you if you plan on reading it...
I didn't know it was incomplete until I finished the book and was kind of disappointed 8D;

and yeah... the next time I go to New York I plan on doing a lot more exploring...
I also plan on getting enough sleep...they made us wake up at 6am every day orz

ew, 6 AM? that's harsh, man. getting up early is my LEAST favourite part of travelling - i hate being on a schedule, which is why i generally just wing it when i go travelling (and probably miss out on a few dozen tourist trap sites, haha - but they're not really my cuppa anyways, so...)

thanks for the link! i'll definitely keep an eye open for it, incomplete or not :) i also really want to read 'the once and future king' by t.h. white, since i hear it reinteprets the old legends in quite a new and fresh way.

you go to uoft, right? are you at the st. george campus, or...? if you are, exploring around the area is super easy and a great way to spend a lazy weekend afternoon :)

I know right?? I think it's because we were in this hotel in New Jersey so we had to take long bus rides to New York... I think the main problem with the tour was the tour guide... who speaks really slowly and tries really hard to be cool... I feel like I'm in a bio lecture when I listen to him...

8D that sounds really interesting... I think I'll look that up

yeah I'm at the st.george campus... but I'm living with my parents now... up in North York... feels like it's in the middle of no where to me... I lived in Innis during the year and it made me realize how much I hated living with people who weren't my best friends orz... thinking of finding a place with this friend next year... or I'm commuting... I hope my parents move closer to downtown
