what's wrong with self mutilation? Isn't it like getting a tatoo, burning, or cutting?

I would say that the difference is in the intent. Tattoos are decorative and mutilation implies harm, right? I would say that they are rarely done for the same reasons.

I don't think any one would say it is morally "wrong" but yeah it bums me out to see people I care about slice themselves up.
So....

It seems tatoos are a way for some people to cope, for lack of a better word, with society and restraints someone feels in life. As may be the same with cutting oneself to cope with instense experience. There's a give and take with cutting...pain to cope = pro & with mutilation of one's body = con. But everyday people eat shit that fucks with thier body or expose themselves to things that fuck shit up. It may be difficult for people seeing the cuts on others because it's a physical manifestation of pain in someone's life. But pain that I am sure lot's of people feel. But it is def. a bummer to see.

This is just me... Cutting was just about the action, that milisecond of pain that was a rush that overtook your body and made me forget stuff. I was never proud of my bloody arms, having to wear sweaters ALL the time around the house in the middle of summer, my arms and thighs being all sore, feeling stupid actually saying "I was helping my dad cut rose bushes." ... total lamerz. Although not to say I didn't almost have a relapse last year, but I took a hot bath instead.

I'm not a fan of tattoos+ either though.

Yeah, I think cutting definitely lives in a place of secrecy and self loathing similar to eating disorders or any fill-in-the-blank destructive behavior. Whereas--for the most part--the tattooed I know wear them with pride as declarations of who they are, to stand apart, and at the very least in bratty defiance.

The problem with cutting is that it reminds me of that line from "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails:

"IiIII...hurt myself today, to see If I still feel."
Or maybe that's the beauty of cutting. hmm.

well, how long does it take do get a tattoo longest a couple hours? mostly for decoration unless youre one of those weirdos who is really into "tats" and you call them "tats" those people kind of freak me out, but cutting is something that invokes shame, and a continual desire to harm ones self I think it's a little more involved than wanting a "sweet tat"

As in: "The streets of Harajuku are your catwalk. Bishoujo, you're so vogue. That's what you drop"

I'm going to a communist themed party tomorrow night and I plan to dress up as Mao Zedong but haven't quite figured out how to pull of bald, male, and Chinese without offending the locals.
