To think that jamming was a thing of the past...
Why had I forgotten that jam could be so easy? In particular, this pectin I bought at the hippie co-op grocery doesn't require oodles of sugar (just 3/4 cup for 4 cups of fruit) and doesn't require cooking the fruit for a week and a day. I had jam in under an hour. Behold!

Giddy for Summer Produce!
The last time I went to the farmers' market, two weeks ago, summer produce (stone fruit, summer squashes, etc) were just starting to appear. There was a lot of summer squash of several varieties, and a few vendors had some greenish looking white peaches and nectarines. Mad for Macarons
Finally, a weekend with nothing to do, nowhere to go. I wanna be sedated! The past four weeks have been a whirlwind of birthdays, parties, muddy camping, berry picking, eating, and baking. Say No to Rain!
The first time I plan to go camping in probably 30 years, and what's it gonna do Friday night and Saturday in Boonville? RAIN! I wanted 80 degree temps and endless sunshine, not a mucky, muddy campsite and shivery beer-drinking! At least we have a van to sleep in, and don't have to sleep in a tent.

Hurray for Rhubarb!
At last, we finally got some rhubarb in today's CSA delivery. I am not a fan of baked strawberry rhubarb things, but my ice cream book, The Perfect Scoop, has a recipe for strawberry rhubarb sorbet. Perfect! Fresh strawberry flavor (it's the jamminess of the cooked strawberries that I object to), tart rhubarby goodness! Think I'll throw in a shot ( Read more... ) -
And how accurate is the weight on your driver's license?
Months ago, as you may recall (early/mid-February, if I recall), I started on a new regimen at the gym, in part because my 20-year college reunion is coming up in June, and spurred on further by having to renew my driver's license and actually looking at the thing.
