I wanted to report about the gigs I didn't get to play this past weekend...I wanted to mention the Bach concert I performed with the choir yesterday...I wanted to mention my practice sessions with Orkestar Bez Ime so far...

Instead I have to report this:

As of now, I have failed Music Theory/Ear Training IV...Even after getting help from TAs and ( Read more... )

I think you have a marvelously enlightened attitude toward this experience!

Ouch, that's rough. It sounds like you've sought extra instruction to make things click... I guess sometimes it's just not that simple. Can you re-take the course?

I might be able to take a Theory IV Review course for graduate students next semester...Otherwise Theory IV itself is offered NEXT Spring 2010...my original plan was to graduate Fall 2009...I'm not sure if that's going to happen now...

Hopefully the powers-that-be will recognize your actual desire to learn and take that into consideration. It's got to be rare for them to deal with an actual *student* anymore...

I still consider you a remarkable musician, and I strongly suspect that it will just turn out to be a matter of some more time and some more concentration (or rather, the same amount of concentration over a longer period of time). I know it would not be a good thing to stay in school longer than you wanted, but if this were to happen, it doesn't sound as though it would be the end of the world. Keep on trying and keep us posted.

Argh, it's so annoying that the sequence of classes is so locked in like that. The same kind of thing almost delayed my graduation for a year, but they let me (barely) test into the 2nd of the series, since i had to start at the SOM after my first semester due to a bunch of other admissions crapola. Maybe you can talk to your profs and figure something out. They may be willing to let you study on your own over the summer and test out of it instead of needing to retake the whole course a year from now. After all, you did already pay for the credits, and it's not like you're not trying...

Also, if you think I might be able to help you study, let me know. I think that'd be fun, but I'm probably really rusty...

The prof is Damschroder...and I've already talked to him and he's pretty locked into the grading system, so hence the withdrawl...I'll check on testing out - it seems like a good idea, but you know how the U is with their sequential procedure...

Tutoring is a definite plan...I may look for someone who already has common tone diminished chords and embellished 6th chords at the tip of their brain, but I'll consider your offer...Thank you!

Damschroder? He's the reason I dropped the Intro to Music class I was taking with Ren many years ago...

I actually like Damschroder as a professor...I don't begrudge him at all on my current situation...
