It's still bizarre to think that you're getting married in a traditional heterosexual church wedding. As a Mary Kay girl. WEIRD.

I actually agree with you about the bride and groom only being actors in a crazy diorama for lots of other people. At least those other people help pay for it.

Also, when is this community event going down? My future is as wide open and tumultuous as the sea, but I really want to be there. I'll wear Birks and suit just to make it feel more homey. :)

It is at the end of the summer in 2009 - either Jul 25 or Aug 1 ish. We're definately doing a weekend, and we're going to try to do it on a Saturday so everyone can get home. But I dunno. I feel weird having a date without having other stuff, but I need the date to plan things. weird weird.

I'm SO glad we eloped, but I hope this works out for you. As long as you don't let everyone get too stressed about stupid shit it should be fine. I don't think your family is the type to go all nuts over details, but I don't know your future in-laws. I was completely ok with eloping because I actually had a strong preference for my family to NOT be there. (I don't like them much, except for my brother). I love BJ's family, but I knew they'd get over it. They didn't give us too much crap before or after. Anyway, if there's anything I can help you plan over teh interwebs, let me know!

The wedding being done this way, in my head, is 90% for my mom. Because I would never hear the end of it. I have done so many things like this (i.e. heteronormitive) for her. Also, I think Mike's mom would be devastated if we didn't have a party of some sort. Plus I'm excited about cake. I have no real problem with this in part because I know that mom et al will all want to have their fingers in the pot, and once I get the basic structure down, I can kind of orchestrate. If the folks were in the states, i have a feeling mom would plan most of it, but she's not, so we'll see. Mike is already in charge of a bunch of stuff (food, the boys' stuff, his cake) and I think grammie/brenda will probably end up doing a lot of flower stuff. If I say "red roses" and I get pink and white something elses it wont really be a big deal ( ... )
