the fossil record doesn't exist in the 1800s some guy took fossils and organized them into fabricated layers of earth named them and marked the fossils as index fossils

I dont think that the previous whatsit was stupid. weird, and silly yes, but not necessarily stupid. I mean, some of it was, but on the whole, no.

This, well, yes, stupid. But highly amusing. And I need to remind myself that people like this exist in the world.
