Thanks; it was successful. He still has to have another surgery in about a year for reconstruction - we're dreading that - but yeah, this went well. :)

Poor Matt! I hope the eventual improvement justifies all the worry and discomfort. If it helps at all, let him know that people he's never even heard of are thinking about him and wishing him well.

As a parent myself, I can imagine how you must be feeling.

He had a cyst in his inner ear, so they had to clean that all out and they cut around most of his ear to get in there. The bone behind there was damaged, so they have to go back in around a year from now and fix that.

It was not fun. The first few hours afterwards were very rough, but by that evening he was nearly normal and now is just as always. I'm hoping kids at school don't bother him much as his incision is very noticeable. We're going to wait and see how he's doing tomorrow as to whether we keep him home one more day or not. But so glad it's behind me - at least for now.

That's quite all right, I totally understand. My life not only caught up with me several months ago, but has completely run off without me and I haven't been able to find it since. Whenever things settle down, I'll be looking forward to it!

Appreciate the hugs. He's back to normal, though we'll see how going back to school goes. They had to shave a ways around the ear and he has quite the incision going. At least the swelling has gone way down. Woo hoo! So, we're back to Dethcon 5.
