I Hear You! I favor cloudy days, myself. I would be absolutely okay in Seattle, for example.

On the plus side, daytime in Alaska will probably be fairly cool even in the summer (certainly compared to California)! Maybe even a good chance of clouds!

Just wanted to say, it ain't all bad to go to the pole-like places when it's the 24-hour sunshiny days--just remember to pack a sleepmask :). I'm just saying, it's nice when the weather's around freezing, rather than 50 below. I went to Antarctica in January (the height of summer down there), and boy am I glad we did, because I got away with just regular ski-weather-type gear, and we got to see penguins nesting. And we were only on the edges of the continent, not at the pole where the weather's more intense.
