Continuing on from the postbox whine…

Hopscotch lines. I haven’t seen them in ages but didn’t realise it of course, until now. It started with a bunch of kids at the climbing wall in the stadium trying to warm up by jumping on and off a step continuously. They got a little antsy about doing it, so some us relatively ancienter ones decided very virtuously to encourage them a bit (I ( Read more... )

You know what? That makes me sad...

But what makes me sadder is that your story doesn't even surprise me. Kids these days have so many other (more hi-tech) ways to entertain themselves. All the simple-but-fun stuff we used to do back in the day are practically relics now.

Hmm... I wasn't too surprised either. Just sad for them.

But it's heartening to note most of the people there are kids, so at least they're doing outdoor stuff, even if it's complicated stuff:o

Oh, that is sad. I'll bet they've never caught fireflies, either.

Mm... not too many fireflies around, but I'll bet they don't get chased out of people's gardens for trying to raid mango trees:o)

:) i caught one for a night. i was 8. never saw them again coz buildings came up all around ours. the dragonflies have disappeared as well.
I saw a firefly in April this year when at a friends' house in Colombo. I sat and stared in awe in the dark.

I was the hopscotch king in my colony, would regularly trash the girls and we'd do all these intricate moves, like balancing the flat slate piece on forehead and leap on the boxes. Those were the days...we would be such a riot. cricket-badminton-scotch-hidenseek-copsnrobbers-gooseberry tree raids.

Even the kiddy generation after us, stopped playing outside !

Yeah...girls invariably get trashed by guys at hopscotch.:( I think it's the longer legs.

I don't remember balancing acts but I do remember something complicated in I think the 4-5 box or the 7-8 box, the turnaround jump I think. Gooseberries... and guavas and mangos. Yummy
