Day 7

Oct 07, 2006 17:58

As today was saturday, I had the day off of school. I took the day to explore around Stuttgart. My first stop, via the U6, was Charlotten Platz and the House of History (Haus der Geschichte). I learned all sorts of things about Baden-Wurttemberg there. Geography is one thing I have never been strong in, and I especially don't know much about the ( Read more... )

Chelsea - what a great adventure! It will be fantastic to follow along as you do things most of us will never get to due to age, funding, fear. :-) Enjoy it fully. We'll sleep easier knowing that the Germans are getting a positive picture of what Americans are like. Keep up the good work! Stan Cowart

Thanks for commenting. It's amazing how difficult it can be to reverse that image of "the American". I try to overcome it, but it is difficult. Germans are so used to putting up with us that they automatically enable some of "the American" traits... so when you've had a long day and you really have forgotten how to ask for the check (or something), its easy to just speak English, and they speak English right back to you. The place I went to dinner last night I stumbled over some words and appologised to the waiter, explaining that I was a foreigner. He asked if I spoke English, to which I responded yes, but I would like to speak German, please. I think this suprised him. It can be very hard to do when they just hand it to you. They expect you to be that way.

Say hello to Josh for me, it's so good to know he is home!

Gotta add that history museum to my places to visit list for 2010. I'm going to have a very busy couple of months!

As for how to stand all day? Get some supple but sturdy arch supports. I die without them, or when my current ones are worn out (they last for about a year). When I've got good ones in, and you know I'm usually on my feet for about 15 hours a day, I can go the whole time without a single complaint.

Have teh best

The Museam sounds pretty awesome. I love when people actually take their time to think out of the box and do something totally new and progressive! I wonder how people stand all day long. Not like teachers standing and lecturing--I have done that-but like Wal-mart greeters? Those greeters are old!
