It's weird the whole age thing.
For my whole Navy career since I got in at an age later than the other high school kids, and such, for the most part everywhere I was stationed I had to work with the "yung'uns" and was always referred to as the "older guy you don't wanna fuck with". And people always looked up to me, as an example or for advice.

Next week is the official Start of the Fall 2007 semester.
That being said, I'm really nervous/excited.
I have yet to meet any of my students and I want to make this first meeting something to remember. I have taught before and that's not my problem. It's the whole first impression thing. And keeping in mind that however I come across to them is ( Read more... ) -
I'm feeling colorful today.
With the Fall Semester creeping up quickly (creeping quickly?) the entire college faculty has been bombarded with "mandatory" meetings.
The thing that gets me is that, we are required to go to these meeting. So when I attend I half expect there to be an attendance sheet flying around and I spend half the meeting trying to keep track of it so I can ( Read more... ) -

Just a quick couple of notes mostly for my reference.
Yesterday in the Department meeting we went over the annual budget and it nearly doubled due to the presence of my Program.
Yikes.
I'm one of 3 professors who has a one-year contract. That means the others get at least 2 months off. And I can't do anything about it unless they let me teach ( Read more... ) -

It's hotter than hell.
I was about to go to the gym when my colleague told me they were going to lunch with some of the faculty. I could have easily said "no". Again. But I figure this to be a good social experience, since I haven't really gotten to know the rest of the department.

Had my first Departmental meeting today.
So I decided to dress conservatively based on the disaster from yesterday. And wouldn't you know it, everyone was pretty much dressed in casual summer attire. Which I should have known better, most of these people I've met before so there's really no one to impress.
