actually, i really like the library... it's basically got a museum in it. last time they had a big exhibit of very old (and entertainingly inaccurate) maps of north america. plus, it's gorgeous and fun to wander around.
also, fyi, a lot of broadway shows sell 'standing room only' or 'rush' tickets in the morning... very cheap and not a bad way to do things (although depending on how recent or popular the show is, you may need to get in line pretty early). that's how I caught spamalot a few years ago, and by now I imagine there wouldn't be much line at all.

Whereabouts in NYC?

If you're going to be in Queens at any point, get to The Lemon Ice King of Corona and try the best Italian ice in the country. They're in Little Italy, in the same location they've had for the past 60 years.

As for pizza, you need to find yourself a Ray's. There are literally dozens of independent pizza places with very similar names and styles-- Famous Ray's Pizza, Ray's Original Pizza, Original Authentic World-Famous Ray's Pizza, and so forth. They are not related to each other, and the identity of the real first Ray's has been lost to history, but most all of the copycats make good NY pizza.

My best suggestion: drop the $10 on the most recent Lonely Planet for NYC. But I suspect you've got plenty of NY people to point you towards awesome things :).
