general blogging question

so having made an attempt to change the general format of my blog, making it more topical and discussion oriented as opposed to strictly diary-worthy musings and recounting of banal details of life, i'm interested in having people actually read it, beyond just my circle of existing lj friends. having no experience with this, how does one go about ( Read more... )

it's more about getting linked. Blogspot does a better job of linking (because I think just about everyone does a better job of linking than LJ), but you wouldn't have to move yourself over there to get readership. The only reason I'd suggest moving your topical posts to another location is that there's the whole "friending" dynamic (ie - you get a 'fan' and they want to friend you, but as soon as they do, they have access to your archived posts). Wordpress is a more professional environment than Blogger or Blogspot (and you have access to more design options) and it's just as free (well, one version, but you won't need more than what the free version offers).

I think to get more readership, it's about linking and networking. If you're part of a network or circle, then most of the time you'll cross-provide links to other blogs on your site, and that seems to be how it's done.

I think it's harder of LJ because you can't advertise links as readily.
