I live for argueing my point to people.

So I was sitting at the table talking about the Darwin Awards with my father, and he was explaining it to my mother. I then began to explain why I think they could be real. It's basically because no one would make something like that up and not tell anybody, and if they told somebody it was fake, the person would eventually tell somebody else and ( Read more... )

That sounds so much like my family it's not even funny.

(But then again, yes it frackin' is.)

Hahaha. This is the first time I've really shown my obvious intelligence to my family. They pretty much just know of my IQ and that I memorize unnecessarily long things.

Ah. My family and I have debates like that all the time. xP. Our last one was on black holes, thanks to Dweeb's physics class.

Uhm... +Raises hand.+

OK, so Mum took me to church every week, but it's a Unitarian Universalist church. I don't even consider it religion. I consider it community. Especially since there are loads of Atheists.

If you asked Mum what she was, she would give a questioning look and say she didn't know. She doesn't know what's out there but doesn't see much. I suppose she's agnostic.

Now Da. If you ask him, he will flat out say Atheist. He has never hidden that from us. We were raised discussing all sorts of things. He'll still discuss it with us. Xandor is heading that way--pure Atheist. He doesn't even have the interest in looking up different beliefs that Da does. (Da's fascinated with looking up Eastern religions.)

So while not the same, our parents seem essentially somewhat similar. Or at least in what you pointed out in this entry.

So yes. I raised my hand. xP. I hope you had called on me...

Haha. Well, yeah, you do have an interesting family. I find that people who have been raised to believe something are often dogmatic and unwilling to accept other points of view. I guess you could say we're rather cultured. :-)

Interesting? That's quite an understatement for my family. But as we're half British, well...I'll accept it. xP. Wouldn't be right to consider my family without a bit of a British understatement.

I agree. People who have been raised to believe something--religiously--often seem more unwilling to accept other points of views. I know I was raised to believe things, but they were Expansive and General. "Accept your peers" "we're not different" "respect others" "acknowledge the interconnectedness between everything", blah blah blah. Principles to try to live by rather than Rules or Sins with Punishments and all that.

I'm really pleased with the way I was raised, as far as that goes.

Yeah, me too. I'm also happy I have my sister, otherwise I probably would be just some punk kid. My sister and I are best friends, and we haven't fought like other siblings a day in our lives.
