I remember reading about that logo in design class as being a case of outstanding design.

Can't help but agree.

years ago I read in fortune magazine a rundown of what their experts decided were the best 50 logos in history (that is, immediate history). It was interesting, I'd never really thought about corporate design like that before, it included Bibendum (the michelin man), the nike swoosh, and the in their opinion greatest of all, I heart New York. I don't remember if the whalers logo was on there.

Well obviously it wasn't successful enough. Probably wouldn't have freaked out Cayce Pollard in Gibson's Patter Recognition, unlike Bibendum.

mmmmmyep. I'm sorry the team they had to beat was a canadian team, 'cos I'd have been rooting for them otherwise. They were good and tight and dangerous throughout, and they earned it a lot. Also I've heard that there were, um, some canucks playing for the reds.

Anyway yeah, go 'canes. Mazal tov.

Breakfasts come and go, Rene, but Hartford, "The Whale", they only beat Edmonton once, maybe twice in a lifetime.

If I remember correctly, you should be relatively indifferent about the hockey, right?

Yes, I should. But the opening scene from Mallrats is for everybody.
